More Noises

Last night was pretty uneventful. I saw the final episode of the third season of The Wire, which was very good. The fourth season starts tonight. Last night I heard more strange noises, although these happened while I was watching TV. Whatever it was, at least it had the sense to wait until after The Wire had finished and before I had got into bed.

Today was another quiet day at work, as usual. There was a small amount of drama at the end of the day, when something had to be added to one of the computer systems (just really a fairly small thing that should have been fairly easily sorted out), however I was directed to contact the wrong place, and had to speak to about four people before I was told it was the worng place, and then it turned out for the right people to add the thing on the computer system they had to wait for authorisation from someone else. It was about that time I went home.

Mind Wandering

Last night was pretty quiet, as usual, I didn't really do much at all, except read my book. It was the start of another week at work, and it was about as exciting as it ever is.

It's really strange because I always sit down at the computer with my head full of stuff that I want to type about but when I actually start to do it, suddenly my mind goes blank.

I had a weird experience last night when I was in bed, with my tape playing, trying to get some sleep. It's a habit of mine to put on a side of an audio tape when I go to bed, because it helps me sleep. Currently it's a tape of Red Dwarf: Better Than Life by Grant Naylor, read by Chris Barrie. Last night my boiler suddenly started making strange noises and then stopped. I had a second where I thought someone was using my shower (which is a far from pleasant thought when it's three in the morning and you're alone in your bed!) Then I thought I heard creaking floorboards and the boiler stopped. That was all, but it was kind of a scare. There can be a number of strange noises in my place anyway.

Loud Noises

There was a lot of noise and shouting in my building last night for some reason. I think somebody had been having a party of some kind as well, because I could hear some very loud music.

Today has been kind of quiet. I went out and got my groceries, including a chocolate milk drink that I usually like, but I opened it and took one mouthful of it and had to spit it right back out. The milk had completely soured. So I was not happy about that. Aside from that I've just been reading and watching TV.

The Hildebrand Rarity

I was reading some more of Quantum of Solace: The Complete James Bond Short Stories by Ian Fleming last night. The first story I read, "Risico", involved James Bond trying to crack a drug smuggling operation in Italy, "The Hildebrand Rarity" involved Bond joining an expedition in the Seychelles to find a rare fish and ending up having to investigate a murder, while "Octopussy" involved a retired soldier having to face up to the dark secrets of his past after a visit from Bond. At the time of writing a lot of the James Bond short stories, Ian Fleming was really getting sick of the formula of the books and was trying to experiment a bit, with mixed success, although most of the Bond short stories are pretty gripping suspense thrillers.

It was another fairly quiet day at work. It was pretty loud last night though because a group of kids, presumably, were hanging around in the building where I live talking and playing the radio, and singing along to it. They were there for about half an hour before they went on somewhere else. The thing about my building is that the sound really does carry.

Loud Noises

I was watching The Apprentice last night and it was hilarious. They were trying to make a television advert for tissues, and of course they were all acting as if they were suddenly Steven Spielberg or James Cameron. One of them was going on about trying to get "DiCaprioesque acting quality". They both turned out pretty badly. This is the point in the series where it always gets really funny, towards the end, when all the backstabbing and egotism become even more blatant than before.

The people upstairs were playing some kind of Irish celtic music and dancing along to it. It was really loud, I could hear it perfectly clearly through the ceiling. It sounded like they were staging their own private performance of Riverdance.

Although it wasn't as bad as the night before when I could hear the couple next door having sex very, very loudly while I was trying to watch Doctor Who.

It was extremely annoying. It sounded like they were trying to break though the wall. It was another very dull day at work, as usual. At least I'm off tomorrow so that should be good.
