The Stalls of Barchester

I had trouble with the internet last night, I think there must have been some problem with the network because it did manage to sort itself out eventually.

I watched a ghost story on TV last night called The Stalls of Barchester, another adaptation of an M. R. James story. The story tells of an archivist who goes to catalogue the library of an old, venerable cathedral. However he stumbles upon the strange story of an archdeacon of the cathedral, who murdered his predecessor in order to usurp him, and who afterwards becomes plagued by whispered voices and half-glimpsed figures, and comes to suspect some terrible secrets about the sinister wood-carvings in the cathedral. It was good, and creepy.

This morning I woke up to find myself without water. Only one cold-water tap was working and so I had to go to work without a proper wash, and I wasn't able to do the washing up after my breakfast. Apparently there was a problem with the water supply to my area. It seems to be okay now, luckily.

We had some food brought in at work. There were sausage rolls, small party sausages, crisps, pizza, cakes, chocolates amd various other items as well as several large bottles of coca-cola and other soft drinks. It was really nice.

I'm hoping to be able to leave early on Friday, if I can. Michele got back in touch today. She's been really busy, because she's got a new job and she's got a few other things happening. She said that she really wanted to see me again, because it had been too long, and she's got a birthday present for me! We should be meeting on Saturday afternoon to see The Golden Compass. So that's good!
