Power Cut

I've been reading The Complete Short Stories of J. G. Ballard: Volume One now, and it has been very interesting. In one story, "Escapement", a man finds himself 'jumping' around in time unable to leave a single quarter of an hour time period, "The Concentration City" finds a student in a horribly overcrowded (and apparently endless) city determined to find enough room to test his new flying machine, "Manhole 69" involves an experiment to eliminate the need for sleep, and "Prima Belladonna" and "Venus Smiles" are set in the same futuristic resort with singing plants and living metal sculptures that get out of control.

There was a power cut last night, and it lasted until this morning. Luckily, it was over by the time I had to get ready to go out to work and everything and I was able to microwave my porridge for breakfast. It was another very quiet day at work. My evening class has been cancelled for tonight and so I just went straight home after work.
