A Study in Emerald

Last night I was watching the Doctor Who DVD that I got yesterday. It was a story called "The Two Doctors" from 1985 which featured the Sixth Doctor (Colin Baker) and the Second Doctor (Patrick Troughton). I can actually remember watching it when it was first broadcast, when I would have been about six. I remember thinking it was pretty scary at the time.

I also read a story from the Neil Gaiman Fragile Things book called "A Study in Emerald", which was a story set in a kind of alternate 1890s London where Earth has been completely dominated by the Great Old Ones (of the H.P. Lovecraft "Cthulhu Mythos" stories) who have replaced all the world leaders, and the world's greatest detective has to solve the gruesome murder of one of these monsters. It was quite good, and intersperesed throughout the story are Victorian style adverts for products and services from the likes of Victor Frankenstein, Henry Jekyll, Vlad Tepes and Springheel Jack.

Today was very quiet at work. I was still upset about everything that had happened over the past couple of days, but I didn't hear anything more about it.
