The House on the Borderland

Last night I listened to the second part of a radio serial called Small Gods, based on a comedy fantasy novel by Terry Pratchett. It's one of the Discworld series, about one of the most powerful of the Discworld gods attempting to manifest and accidentally ending up in the body of a small tortoise with no special powers except the ability to talk to a slightly dim-witted novice monk. It is very funny a lot of the time. After that I listened to the first part of a reading of a novel called The House on the Borderland by William Hope Hodgson about a house in Ireland which periodically comes under attack by strange, gruesome monsters from another dimension. On one of the digital radio stations they have an hour of science-fiction, fantasy or horror every night of the week at six in the evening, which is then repeated at midnight. When I remember, I like to listen to the midnight broadcast, because some of them are good.

Today I got my annual leave signed and authorised. I'm off for the first two weeks of March. I'm planning to go away for a few days during that time and then later in the year have a long holiday in the US for two or three weeks, if I haven't managed to move over permanently before then.

It wasn't a good day at work today. There were lots of really small, minor things that were annoying me. I tend to feel really tense at work a lot anyway.
