The Twilight Zone

Last night I watched a couple of episodes of The Twilight Zone on DVD. One of the episodes I saw was called "The Shelter" and concerned a friendly suburban neighbourhood in the USA. Until it turns out ther might be nuclear missiles heading toward the States and only one family in the street has a bomb shelter. It was a very dark episode and I can imagine it would have been really terrifying for an early 1960s audience. The other episode I saw was called "To Serve Man", about a race of aliens called the Kanamites that arrive on earth, ostensibly in peace to give Earth their advanced technological resources. However, when a human scientist translates a Kanamite book, the aliens ulterior motives are exposed. I've always really liked The Twilight Zone. I remember taping it a couple of times a week when I was about thirteen or fourteen because it was always on at about two or four in the morning on Channel Four. I remember spending almost all day at school wondering what that days Twilight Zone episode was going to be about. Part of the appeal of that show for me was that you never really knew what you were going to get.

I went out today and bought a book called The Richard Laymon Collection Volume 15 which contained two books by horror author Richard Laymon (in this case a novel called The Travelling Vampire Show and a collection of short stories called Dreadful Tales). I got my groceries for the week on my way home.

My friends Alan and Jackie sent me text messages to meet them at a bar called The Tron. I was reluctant to go because I am still uncomfortable with going out after dark, but I went up anyway, because I knew if I didn't I would be barraged with endless text messages. I'm kind of glad that I did in a way, because I managed to get back safely anyway, and I suppose it will take small steps before I am completely comfortable with going out.
