The Price of Fear

Last night was pretty quiet. I spent most of the evening watching repeats of comedy shows and writng in my paper journals.

I got up quite late this morning, and my Dad telephoned me to ask if I wanted to do my week's grocery shopping with him when we go along to the mall tomorrow morning, and I thought that sounded good. I went out quickly, though, to get some beer for this evening. Then I went along to the Cineworld cinema. The bus ride was very long, because there was some kind of march along one of the main streets and a large part of the city centre was closed off. However I did manage to get to the cinema, and there was a very long queue at the box office, also one of the ushers was arguing with a group of kids who were trying to bring along their own food into the cinema. However, despite all the delays, I still manage to make the film in the nick of time. The film that I saw was Che: Part One, directed by Steven Soderbergh, about the famous revolutionary Ernesto "Che" Guevara (played in the film by Benicio Del Toro). The film was originally made as a four hour epic but is being released in two two hour installments. It was an interesting film, although it is probably best to know something about the background before going to see it, but I'll certainly try and catch the second half when it comes out next month.

When I got home I listened to an episode of The Price of Fear on the radio. It had legendary horror movie star Vincent Price introduce a story about a couple who inherit the large mansion and estate of a very wealthy elderly relative, the only condition being that they have to look after her beloved cat. However the husband of the couple is a scheming, brutal thug who treats his wife with contempt and alternately abuses and neglects the cat, eventually casting it out to die. However the cat has some unusual powers which it uses for gruesome revenge. Following that I listened to a reading of an Arthur C. Clarke story called All the Time in the World, about a thief who is recruited by a strange being to steal priceless works of art with the help of a device that makes time stand still. However, there is a shock when he discovers the being's true identity and purpose.
