Movie Day

When I got up today I watched Play Misty For Me on TV. It's a 1971 film directed by Clint Eastwood, who also stars as a Californian disc jockey who hosts a late night jazz show, and often has calls from a mysterious woman who always asks him to play the Errol Garner song "Misty" on his show. Eventually he meets the woman, named Evelyn (Jessica Walter), who claims to be his "Number One Fan". He has a on night stand with her, but she keeps coming back and becomes increasingly obsessed with him, and soon becomes extremely violent when he rejects her. It is a suspenseful film, even if the storyline has become increasingly familiar, because of all the stalker-themed films which have come since.

I went out and got my groceries for the week and then came back home. This afternoon I saw another film on TV called The Number 23, directed by Joel Schumacher, that stars Jim Carrey as a dog catcher, who stumbles across an obscure novel called "The Number 23", and becomes increasingly disturbed by the similarities between his own life and that of the main character in the book. Like the character in the book, he also becomes obsessed with bizarre mysteries and coincidences surrounding the number 23. It wasn't actually too bad. I've always liked Jim Carrey. I think he's good in his serious roles as well as his more comedic ones.

It has been a nice, quiet day today, but that's good.
