The Hound of the Baskervilles

Last night I watched a 1959 Hammer Films production of The Hound of the Baskervilles directed by Terence Fisher and based on the novel by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The story concerns the ancient, wealthy Baskerville family which, according to legend, are cursed to be haunted by a giant, demonic hound which kills members of the family. The latest lord of the manor, Henry Baskerville (played by Christopher Lee) doesn't believe the legend, however, when his father is found dead on the moors next to the paw-print of a giant dog, he reluctnantly decides to consult the famous detective Sherlock Holmes (Peter Cushing), who immediately believes that Henry's life is in serious danger, either by supernatural forces or a more earthly threat. It was very well done and lavish with plenty of creepy, mist-shrouded moors. It was pretty faithful to the book as well. I first read it when I was about eleven and was really into the Sherlock Holmes stories.

I was writing more of my NaNoWriMo story (which currently has a word count of 14,401 words) so it seems to be going fairly well. Whether, of course, the finished novel is any good or not, I really can't say. The completed work, in my experience, rarely matches whatever expectations I had when I began it or when I was writing it.
