V for Vendetta

Last night I read the graphic novel V for Vendetta written by Alan Moore and illustrated by David Lloyd. The comic serial ran in the 1980s and is set in the late 1990s in a grim future Britain completely dominated by a facist government, and tells the stroy of a mysterious masked man known only as "V" who fights against the brutal system. The film of the book was released last year. The film is fairly faithful to the comic story although the graphic novel expands much more on the various characters, and there are many sub-plots in the comic that were cut from the film version. Also the climax is quite different, as well. Although if you liked the film, you should certainly check out the graphic novel. Alan Moore apparently disliked the film (although he never saw it, and only read a script). Alan Moore apparently refuses an on-screen credit for the movie adaptations of his work now, and also refuses to accept the money he's due for them. The reason was that he was very unhappy with the previous films made from his work, From Hell and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Today has been fairly quiet. I went out at around lunchtime and got my groceries for the week. When I came home I watched Kurt & Courtney on DVD. The film is a documentary by Nick Broomfield about the life and death of Kurt Cobain. It's a very sad film to watch, actually.

I'll be watching Doctor Who on TV this evening, of course.
