Return of the Fly

Last night was pretty quiet. I watched some of the movie Mary Shelley's Frankenstein which starred Kenneth Branagh as Frankenstein and Robert De Niro as the Creature. I remember watching it when it first came out in 1994. It's not a bad movie but kind of overblown. It's not as good as the Boris Karloff ones.

Today I went out to get my groceries for the week and in the afternoon I was watching the 1959 movie Return of the Fly. In the movie, the son of the scientist from the original movie decides to resume his father's experiments, despite the objections of his uncle (played by Vincent Price). Of course, before long there is another fly-monster on the loose. It wasn't really very good, but it does have it's moments (such as a part-human part-guinea-pig creature). Frankenstein

Last night was pretty quiet. I was watching some comedy shows on TV and the latest episode of The Wire.

Today was another very quiet and very dull day at work. This evening I was watching the 1910 movie version of Frankenstein. It was the first movie version of the Frankenstein story and one of the earliest horror movies ever made. Despite only lasting around 12 minutes, it still manages to have all the essential elements of the story and still leave room for some hilarious over-acting. Of course, it was a silent movie, so they had to use these exaggerated gestures to get the meaning across. However, there are some really effective sequences, such as the monster creation sequence, and the final scene. It was still scarier than the Kenneth Branagh version, anyway.
