Searchers 2.0
Last night I was watching a film on television called Searchers 2.0, directed by Alex Cox. It's a kind of off-beat comedy road movie. In present day Los Angeles two ageing out of work "B"-movie actors, Fred (played by Ed Pansullo) and Mel (Del Zamora), meet by chance and discover that they both started their careers as child actors on the same film, where they were both bullied by a legendary screenwriter. Discovering that the screenwriter is going to be attending a special screening of one of his old films at Monument Valley, Arizona, the two actors decide to travel out there for the express purpose of beating him up as revenge. Enlisting the help of Mel's reluctant daughter as driver, they set out on the road, despite the fact they have no clear idea of where they are going or what exactly they intend to do when they get there. Instead they spend their time endlessly discussing movies (especially Westerns). It's a very low-budget film, and not much actually happens, but it is often very funny, and the desert landscapes are very impressive. It features cameos from cult producer Roger Corman, film critic Leonard Maltin and director Alex Cox.
Today was another fairly quiet day at work. My friend Joe lent me a DVD of a movie called Feed. I was quite tired by the afternoon and happy to head off home. On my way i stopped off to renew my bus pass for another month.
