One More Missed Call

Last night I was watching a documentary called Rich Hall's How the West Was Lost about the history and significance of Western films, that I thought was really interesting. I once did an evening course on Westerns a couple of years ago. I was also watching a documentary about the eating habits of the 1970s which included something called The Len Deighton Action Cookbook which mainly seemed to be about the excessive consumption of alcohol at parties (serve about a half bottle of hard spirits per guest every two hours).

I also watched the original Japanese version of One Missed Call, directed by Takashi Miike. The film involves a group of students who receive calls on their mobile telephones apparently from themselves a couple of days in the future, fortelling their own deaths. When the date and time that the call was made arrives, the victim is killed by a mysterious force in a manner which mirrors the call. The story revolves around a female student teaming up with a police detective, whose sister died after receiving one of the phone calls, to solve the mystery before she becomes the next victim. It's a good film, and pretty suspenseful and creepy. A re-make was released this year, which followed the film fairly faithfully.

I didn't go over to my parent's house this week, because they are on holiday in Madeira. Instead I went out for a walk and had a couple of drinks by myself before heading back home.
