The Apprentice Final
Last night I was watching the final episode of The Apprentice, which was quite fun. It's usually a pretty good series.
Aside from that I was reading a novel called The Honourable Schoolboy by John le Carre. It's the centrepiece of a trilogy that started with Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy and finished with Smiley's People, which are set during the Cold War and focus on British spymaster George Smiley and his complex pursuit of the mysterious Soviet spymaster codenamed Karla. In this one, Smiley sends journalist and part-time secret agent Jerry Westerby (nicknamed "the Honourable Schoolboy") to the Far East to uncover a money laundering operation which Smiley believes is providing funds for Karla's operations. The BBC, who had had a lot of success with the miniseries of Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy, made serious plans to adapt The Honourable Schoolboy but decided that, since the story is mostly set in Hong Kong, it would be too expensive, so that just moved on to Smiley's People, which also featured Alec Guinness as Smiley and Patrick Stewart as Karla.
Work was really quiet again today. At least it will soon be the weekend.
