Thrilling Cities

Last night I finished reading the stories in Quantum of Solace by Ian Fleming. In "Property of a Lady" James Bond has to ferret out an enemy agent bididng on a Faberge Egg at an auction, in "The Living Daylights" Bond is assigned to kill a sniper in Berlin and "007 in New York" is a very short piece where Bond arrives in New York and muses on the city during a cab ride. "007 in New York" was originally published in the American edition of a travel book Fleming wrote called Thrilling Cities to compensate for Fleming's otherwise grim opinion of the city. It was a good collection and the stories were usually well-paced and pretty exciting. Certainly worth reading. Even if you're not a fan of the Bond movies the orginal Ian Fleming novels and stories are worth checking out because they are very different. The original stories are more like straightforward thrillers without the gadgets and comedy elements that the films had.

It was another really quiet day at work. The weather, which started off really nice and bright and sunny, turned very grey and wet by late afternoon.
