Pop Art

Last night I was reading another couple of stories in the 20th Century Ghosts collection by Joe Hill. The first story was called "Pop Art" and concerned a teenager who befriends a living inflatable boy, it's a story which at first seems completely surreal and comical, but ends up being very moving. The second one was called "They Shall Hear the Locusts Sing" and is about a frequently bullied teenager who lives in a small town near a testing site for atomic bombs and wakes up one morning to find himself transformed into a giant insect. It's a very gruesome take on the famous Franz Kafka story Metamorphosis and 1950's "B" monster movies. Later on I was watching a couple of episodes of The Office from the DVD set I got at the weekend.

As I was leaving for work I noticed a very unpleasant smell near the main front door of my building. I really hope it wasn't what I thought it was. There are times when I really do not like living in this neighbourhood. If it was, someone must have been really drunk. It was another fairly average day at work. I was listening to my iPod for a lot of the day, listening to the Juno soundtrack, and episode of The Mighty Boosh, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Jewel, Leonard Cohen and Martina McBride. On my way home I bought a large bottle of Coke, mainly so I could get some change for the vending machine tomorrow.

I've got a meeting on Friday about the company video news system. I'm hoping I'll get to present it.
