Smiles of a Summer's Night
Last night was fairly quiet. I watched a 1955 comedy called Smiles of a Summer Night, which was directed by Ingmar Bergman. The storyline concerns the romantic lives of a number of aristocratic Swedish couples during a summer's night. It was very well-made and quite funny. The movie was adapted into a musical by Stephen Sondheim called A Little Night Music and very loosely adapted into the 1982 Woody Allen movie A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy.
Today has so far been really quiet. I only went out once to get my groceries for the coming week. When I got home I listened to a radio play of Trumbo, about the famous Hollywood screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, and his experiences with the Hollywood Blacklist in the 1950s and 60s. It was pretty interesting.
