Infamous

Last night I was watching the film Infamous, directed by Douglas McGrath, based on a true story. In 1959 author Truman Capote (played by Toby James) is one of the leading lights of the New York literary and social scene, but is struggling to find inspiration until he reads a short article in a newspaper about the brutal murder of a farmer and his family in a small town in Kansas. Along with his friend, Harper Lee (Sandra Bullock), Capote travels to the town to write a true-crime novel, using fictional techniques. With difficult Capote manages to win over the people of the town. However, when the killers are arrested, Capote quickly develops a bond with one of them, Perry Smith (Daniel Craig), which leads him to a moral dilemma. The film tells exactly the same story as the more well-known Capote which was released a year earlier. However it does deserve to be much better remembered than it has been, because it is really good. By the way, the book that Capote eventually wrote about the killings, In Cold Blood, is excellent and well worth reading.

It was another very quiet and dull day at work. The same as it always is.
