Fragile Things

Last night I was reading a few of the stories from the Fragile Things collection by Neil Gaiman. The first one was a really amusing story about a would-be writer who wants to write a gritty, realistic book about contemporary life, but just can't do it. However reality for him is like a gothic horror story, complete with castles, full moons, monsters roaming through graveyards, ghosts, curses, secret messages, mad relatives chained up in the attic and talking ravens. So he is persuaded to try unrealistic, cliched fantsy (which is anything concerning cars, stockbrokers, TV, computers, credit cards, offices and so on). I've been really enjoying the stories in there.

I was also watching a one-off TV drama called Hughie Green: Most Sincerely, about the unpleasant private life of Hughie Green, who was a very popular gameshow host on British TV from the 1950s until the 1970s. It was quite an interesting show, even though I hadn't even known who the guy was before I tuned in. There's a whole series of TV shows at the moment about the troubled private lives of well-loved comedians.

It was another very quiet and uneventful day at work again.
