Nineteen Seventy-Seven

Last week I finished reading the book Nineteen Seventy-Seven by David Peace, the second part of the "Red Riding" series. The book is set against the background of the brutal Yorkshire Ripper killings and tells the stories of a corrupt and violent cop and a journalist who is rapidly falling apart. Both of them become dangerously involved with the murders when they start to suspect that there is more than one killer on the loose. The book is tense, mesmerising and powerful, but it is extremely disturbing, bleak and violent. The whole series has been really good but the unrelenting misery can be a bit much at times.

Last night I listened to the first part of a Doctor Who story on the radio, which was really pretty good and I also watched a show called Worried About the Boy about the rise to fame of pop star Boy George, which was pretty interesting. I was never a fan, but I usually enjoy watching music biographies.

It was the start of another ordinary week at work.
