X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Last night I was watching a 1983 movie called Star 80, directed by Bob Fosse, which told the true story of murdered Playboy model and actress Dorothy Stratten (played by Mariel Hemingway). It was a pretty interesting film about the dark side of Hollywood, however it was understandably very bleak. I was also reading Preludes and Nocturnes by Neil Gaiman, the first of the Sandman graphic novels that I got yesterday. The story revolves around Morpheus, the Lord of Dreams, who is imprisoned by an occultist for most of the 20th century, before escaping severely weakened. Once released he has to travel in search of the three sources of his power. The story moves between bizarre dark fantasy and outright horror. Most people, including the writer Gaiman, regard the first volume as the weakest of the series, but I thought it was still very good. Since it was a graphic novel, of course, it didn't take very long to read.
I fell asleep on my sofa last night watching repeats of Red Dwarf and so I ended up getting up later than I had planned. One nice surprise was that I got a letter from my friend Allison from New York. At around midday I headed out to the supermarket to get my groceries for the week. Then I headed out to the Cineworld cinema to see X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which I thought was fun, with some really good special-effects and action sequences. It was a good film but it wasn't great.
