The Silence of the Lambs

Last night I finished reading the novel of The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris. The book's story involves a young FBI trainee, Clarice Starling, who is assigned to conduct a routine interview with the incarcerated Dr. Hannibal Lecter, a notorious cannibalistic serial-killer, who used to be a psychiatrist. As the interviews progress Lecter hints that he has information that could help solve a series of brutal killings comitted by a psychopath nick-named "Buffalo Bill", who kidnaps women and kills them several days later. It turns out that Buffalo Bill has just kidnapped his latest victim, the daughter of a US senator, and with time rapidly running out Clarice has to deal with the cunning Lecter before time runs out. It's a pretty tense book and well-written. I was reading it in an omnibus volume of the "Hannibal Lecter" novels, which also includes the first book, Red Dragon, and the third Hannibal. A fourth book in the series, Hannibal Rising has also been published.

Today was the first day of my training course, that is lasting for about two weeks. It went okay really, although not very exciting. The good thing was that I managed to leave at half past two this afternoon.
